The Ball Track Challenge

Today we had to work as a group to build a ball track. The track had to have a section made from straws. The team members had to hold the track while the ball travelled down it. The ball had to land in the cup. The longest working track won.

We could use: 4 sheets of newspaper, 2 sheets of A4, 1m of masking tape, a paperclip and 6 drinking straws.

Results
1st - Bill's group - 3.5m
2nd - Madhu's group - 2.31m
3rd - Sapphire's group - 1.6m

Soda Bread - Words and pictures by Bill, Hamish and Addis.

TODAY WE MADE
IRISH SODA BREAD!!!

We have been learning about where our families came from. We read about a girl and her family and how they kept in contact with family in Ireland. In the story the girl takes Soda Bread to school - we decided to make some.

This is what we did.

Preheat the oven to 200C.

First the measurers put 3½ cups flour in a bowl.

Next they put 1 teaspoon of baking soda in.
Then they added ¾ teaspoon salt.
Fourth the mixers added 1½ buttermilk.

5th the mixers mixed everything up.
Then we put in more liquid (buttermilk).

6th they put some flour on the dough so it wouldn’t stick to the sheet.

7th some people kneaded the dough until it looked like a loaf of bread.

Next cut 1 inch-deep X across the top of bread.

9th put in the oven for about 35 minutes.

We could choose to have our bread with butter or jam or both. It was delicious and scrumptious.

We took some bread to Room 11 – our Buddy Class. We read our stories to them while they ate the bread.

We all started very confidently.

Sadly some of them fell over at the last minute - just before measuring time.

Making Pumpkin Soup - Pictures and words by Jack and Tom

Today in Room 7 we made Pumpkin Soup for the staff.
The pumpkins were left over from the Food Fair.
Room 7 sold the soup for $4.00. The soup came with 2 pieces of toast. There was some left over and we got to try it. Some of us thought it was delicious, some of us didn't like it.
All of us had jobs to do - either helping make the soup or doing the dishes.

The first thing we did was some people chopped some pumpkin into small bits.

Second we got some oil and poured it into the pumpkin and we put it into the oven for about 50 minutes

Third Ms D told two people to chop the onions. Well you know what happened - they started to cry!

Fourth we put the onions and the pumpkins into a huge pot and cooked them.

We added nutmeg, salt, pepper, milk, stock and water. Then we put the pumpkin in.

Fifth we blended it into soup.

Sixth we served it to the staff.
